Now, look at it. For the writer’s and storytellers out there: how do come to a story; and of course the most clichéd of all documented answers is to say, “Stories come to me. I don’t go in search for them.”
Different people will have different takes on this subject matter, their own way of dealing with a story. We have heard it said that there’s no story bigger than yours. That’s if, you know that there are other stories in the world. Yes, there are. A million stories: unique in a million respects. I’d say that there’s no greater story, than when the story becomes ‘ours’.
There’s the climax from Hey Ram (which I greatly love): where Saket Ram’s grandson discovers a cupboard in Saket Ram’s room and brings the box containing Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘missing’ footwear and spectacles to Tushar Gandhi.
Saket Ram’s Grandson: Mr. Gandhi, I think I have the most extraordinary story to tell you.
Tushar Gandhi: Sure, I like your stories very much.
Saket Ram’s Grandson: It’s not just my story. It’s your story too. In fact, it’s ours now.
